If you ask DPL to generate a Risk Profile when you run a decision analysis, at least two elements are created: a Risk Profile Chart and one or more sets of Risk Profile Data. Each Risk Profile Data set is a set of points that represents the range of outcome values under a particular decision policy. The Risk Profile Chart is the means of displaying the Risk Profile Data.
If your model includes only a single objective function/single attribute, DPL will always create Risk Profile Data set for the expected value of the Objective Function under the optimal policy only.
Generating Risk Profiles for Multiple Attributes/Multiple Objective Functions Models
If your model includes multiple attributes you can choose to have DPL generate Risk Profile Data for the Objective Function, Objective Function and All Attributes, All Attributes or for a specific attribute in a single run via the Select Risk Profile Quantity drop-down list located beneath the Risk Profile checkbox. By default the Quantity will be set to Objective Function.
Similarly, if your model includes multiple objective functions you can choose to have DPL generate Risk Profile Data for All Objective Functions, All Objective Function and All Attributes, All Attributes or for a specific attribute or objective function in a single run.
Naming Conventions for Risk Profile Data Sets
If there is just one objective function in the model the Risk Profile Data set generated is named Expected Value. If certain equivalent is available, DPL creates two Risk Profile Data sets called Expected Value and Certain Equivalent. If you have more than one model in your Workspace and a Risk Profile Data set named Expected Value exists, then subsequent data sets of this type are named Expected Value1, etc. The same is true for Certain Equivalent data sets.
Risk Profile Data sets generated for an attribute are named for the attribute they represent. Risk Profile Data sets generated for Objective functions will be match the name specified for objective function represented within the Objective & Utility dialog. If no names are specified in the dialog, they will be named Obj Fn 1, Obj Fn 2, etc.
Initial Decision Alternatives
If the Init Dec Alts (i.e., Initial Decision Alternatives) box is checked, DPL generates a set of Risk Profile Data for each alternative of the initial decision, and names each in the Workspace Manager with the name of the alternative it represents. DPL will display the Risk Profile Data for each alternative as a separate series within the single Risk Profile Chart that's created. Note: The Initial Decision Alternatives output is available only for models with a single objective function who's decision tree begins with a decision node that has eight or fewer alternatives. Further if you indicate that you'd like to generate a Risk Profile dataset for one or all attributes in the Risk Profile Quanity box, the Initial Decision Alternatives output is not available.
Saving Risk Profile Data
All Risk Profile Data generated by a run of a model will remain in the Workspace Manager until the next run of that model. When the next Decision Analysis is performed, all Risk Profile Data generated by the previous run will be overwritten (even if you do not select a Risk Profile in the subsequent run). If you want to save a particular set of Risk Profile Data, you must rename it in the Workspace Manager. There is no limit to the number of sets of Risk Profile Data you can save in a DPL Workspace.
Displaying Risk Profile Data
Any set of Risk Profile Data that is in the Workspace Manager can be displayed in a Risk Profile Chart. To create a new Risk Profile chart from a Risk Profile dataset, double-click on the dataset in the Workspace Manager. You can display up to 32 sets of Risk Profile Data at once in a single Risk Profile Chart via the Modify Data Dialog.
Exporting Risk Profile Data
You can export a set of Risk Profile Data as a .CSV (comma separated value) or .XML file. In the Risk Profile Chart, select Data | Export | Data. A dialog prompts for the name and type of the file in which to save the Risk Profile Data.
