Node Names

DPL will automatically prompt you for a node name when you place a new node in an Influence Diagram. Every node must have a name.

If you wish to change the name of a node, you can do so by double-clicking on the nodeand choosing General tab of the Node Definition dialog. When typing the node name, press Enter to place the node name on multiple lines; DPL will not automatically generate line breaks. Each line will be centered in the node.

A name can contain up to 512 characters. If the length of a name (including line breaks) is greater than 32 characters, DPL will truncate it to 32 characters for output purposes. You may use blanks and other special characters in names. DPL will convert these characters to the underscore character (_) when displaying the node's variable name and in some outputs. If a name does not begin with an alphabetic character, DPL will substitute a capital N for the first character. You need to use these variable names whenever you refer to the name in an expression. DPL will display the variable name in the Name section in the General tab of the Node Definition dialog. For additional information on naming nodes, see identifiers.

You can format the text of the node names by selecting a node in the Influence Diagram or Decision Tree and using the commands within the View | Font group.
