Projects Selection via Categories

Categories

You may define up to twelve types of project categories for projects in your portfolio. See Defining Project Categories for information on defining categories. The Project Selection dialog allows you to select which projects to include in a Portfolio Analysis Run or Data Report based on their categorization. Prior to a Portfolio run you can select a subset of projects to include in the analysis or report by categories via the Portfolio | Project Selection | Criteria button.

Selection Criteria

Projects will be included as follows based on your selections. Within a category type, multiple selections define an "OR" condition. E.g., if you select categories 1A and 1B for category type 1, projects that are defined to be 1A OR 1B will be included. Across category types selections define an "AND" condition. E.g., if you select category 1A from type 1 and 2A from type 2, then projects that are defined to be 1A AND 2A will be included.

Making Selections

You can launch the Project Selection dialog via the Portfolio | Project Selection | Criteria button on the ribbon or within the Portfolio Analysis Options dialog by setting the Project Selection radio button to Subset and clicking the Select button.

  • For each category type defined, select the categories you wish to include in the analysis or report.
  • Use the "<< Prev" and "Next >>" buttons to scroll through the category types (if there are more than three).
  • Use Ctrl+Click or Shift+Click to select multiple categories within a type.
  • Click OK, ensure the Filter radio button on the ribbon (or dialog) is set to Subset, and run the analysis.

To include all the project in an analysis, set the radio button on the ribbon or within the dialog to All.
