Help Conventions

To get help at any time in DPL, use the Help tab on the ribbon or press F1. DPL offers context-sensitive help through it's website, which means that clicking on one of the Help buttons or pressing the F1 key will open a web browser that contains the topic corresponding to what you're doing/viewing in DPL.

Help Tab

Contents: Opens the Getting Started with DPL 9 help topic that provides links and information on DPL documentation, examples, videos, training, and support.

Search: Brings up the Help Search dialog.

Index: Displays the index for online help.

In help topics, ribbon tab names, groups and commands are separated by a vertical bar ( | ). Items within a drop-down are also separated by a vertical bar. Some examples are below.

  • "Influence Diagram | Node | Add" refers to the Add drop-down in the Node group on the Influence Diagram tab of the ribbon.
  • "Influence Diagram | Node | Add | Discrete chance " refers to Discrete Chance Item of the Add drop-down in the Node group on the Influence Diagram tab of the ribbon.
This convention is also used for multiple tab dialogs. For example, "Influence Diagram | Model | Settings | Links" refers to the Links tab of the Model Settings dialog which can be accessed by clicking Settings button in the Model group of the Influence Diagram tab of the ribbon. Options following a vertical bar refers to the dialog box launcher (icon with a small arrow pointing down and left) for the group preceding the vertical bar. For example, "Home | Run | Options" refers to the dialog box launcher for the Run group on the Home tab of the ribbon and launches the Run Settings dialog.
