Event Tornadoes Overview

Event Tornadoes are used to compare the relative effects of the uncertainties in probabilistic models.

Generating an Event Tornado Diagram

  • Select Home | Sensitivity | Tornado | Event (Deterministic) or Event (Probabilistic) .

Event Tornado Types

Deterministic: Runs the model one time for each chance event, replacing the lotteries on all the other chance events with their expected values (unless Always Gamble has been specified). The diagram shows you what the range of the model risk profile is when the sensitivity event is the only uncertainty in the model (unless other nodes have an Always Gamble specification). You should not use this option if you are making a decision based on certain equivalents, because expected values will provide misleading results. Note if Don't Gamble has been specified for a chance event it is not gambled on when it is the sensitivity event.

Probabilistic: Runs the model one time for each chance event, replacing the lotteries of the sensitivity event with their expected values while leaving all other chance events unchanged. If Don't Gamble has been specified for an event it is always replaced with its expected value. The diagram shows you what the range of the model risk profile is when the sensitivity event is the only uncertainty that has been removed from the model (unless other nodes have a Don't Gamble specification). Note: If Always Gamble has been specified for a chance event, it is not replaced with its expected value when it is the sensitivity event. You should use this option when you are looking at certain equivalents.
