2014 INFORMS annual meeting recap

We’re back from the analytical pow-wow that is the INFORMS annual meeting. As usual, we reconnected with old friends and colleagues, listened to talks stimulating and sedating, and handed out some schwag from our booth in the exhibit hall. Speaking of schwag, our stainless steel water bottles were very well received, and some visitors even said they were the best handouts at the show. We know some companies have used the Great Recession as an excuse to downgrade, but at Syncopation, we are never knowingly undercatered!

Congratulations are in order to the winners of the Ramsey Medal, the Practice Award, the Publication Award, and the Student Paper Award.

The next INFORMS Annual meeting will take place in San Francisco, November 9-12, 2014, so mark your calendars, and try to imagine the taste of that first pint of Anchor Steam. The SF Bay Area is a hotbed of Decision Analysis (I hear it’s something about a posh school in Palo Alto …), so for decision & risk analysis types it will be an event not to be missed.

In the nearer term, Syncopation will have a presence at the Analytics Conference in Boston, March 30-April 1, so we hope to see you there. As we are based in Concord, Mass. and Bangor, Maine, this conference is as close to a home game as we can get.
