||ABOUT SYNCOPATION SOFTWARE
What's our history?
Syncopation Software was founded in 2003 by Chris Dalton and Tony Manzella,
formerly senior staff members in the Valuation and Strategy group at
PricewaterhouseCoopers. Syncopation's primary focus is to develop, sell and
support the DPL software product line. DPL is the most powerful and
flexible decision tree analytic software package on the market today, and has
been since its initial release in 1991. DPL 6.0 was released in 2004 and today
has over 1000 users. Syncopation's customers include
4 of the top 5 global oil & gas companies and 4 of the top 5 global
We also have hundreds of users at prominent
international consulting firms and prestigious universities.
Syncopation's goal is to thoroughly satisfy our customers by
anticipating and meeting their ongoing needs for top quality, powerful business
analytic software. We are further committed to ensuring rapid, responsive technical
support and effective training programs suitable for DPL users at all levels.
Syncopation continuously improves DPL and provides
regular software updates between major product releases. We also work with our
consulting partners around the world to encourage the
application of DPL in new and innovative ways.
Until the founding of Syncopation, DPL was run as a side business to a decision
analysis consulting practice. Both founders of Syncopation are former employees
of Applied Decision Analysis (ADA), a California-based consultancy that played
a leading role in the commercial application of decision analysis. ADA began
development of DPL in 1989, with the first release in 1991. ADA was subsequently
acquired by PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) in 1998. Syncopation acquired the DPL
business from PwC in 2003.
What's in a name?
Occasionally a customer will ask us why we are called Syncopation Software
instead of, for example, The DPL Software Company. Analogous to an
unexpectedly strong note occurring on the normally unaccented beat in
syncopated music, our software products are designed to help users uncover hidden
value, improve business practices, and identify surprising new strategies -- not
just quantify "status quo" decisions or validate current practices. We strive to be
exceptional by incorporating methodologies and algorithms with a level of
sophistication that surpasses the traditional and the mainstream.
What does DPL stand for?
DPL stands for Decision Programming Language. These days most of our users are
not programmers, and using DPL's graphical interface doesn't feel like
programming, so we just use the acronym.
